Vintage ClothesWelcome to the Bustledress.com "Date of your Antique Dress" page.

On this page, for a $10. fee, Lisa Schnapp will give an informal estimate evaluation of a Victorian- 1920's gown in photo(s) submitted for an approximate date, types of fabrics/trims, what your gown photo submitted would be used for, and the gown's approximate value on the open retail market. (Other valuable details will be added as well.) This is not to be considered be a formal estimate, so it is not suitable for insurance purposes or wholesale venue auctions, but to be considered as a general education guide. Approximate date of lady's garment is usually within a three year span, due to fluctuations of style in different regions (i.e. country clothing vs. city clothing, etc.) plus other variables.

To submit your photo(s), please read photo submission criteria carefully before sending your photo:

Photo(s) must be in photgraphed with distinctly clear and bright lighting. The antique clothing fashion must be clearly visible. Gray and dark photos will make it very difficult to make accurate determinations. Photos sent must be no larger than 600 DPI width across, and compressed, so no photos larger in size than 300K in size please. Any larger photos will automatically be discarded without notice. Photos to be evaluated required: A full length front shot, back full length, side view. Mannequin use is a plus, otherwise, please lay out gown so all pieces can be seen separately (not clumped together on a hanger) this is so waist area finishes can be viewed. Required closeups: 1.) Main fabric length. 2.) Bodice closures such as buttons/ hooks. 3.) Rear bustle area (include waistband/ closures if possible.) 4.) If the bodice and skirt could be shown inside out and a shot taken of the innards, showing the bodice back seams, and any boning, that would be extremely helpful as well. 5) Need to see the hem and/or with hem ruffles or pleats. Also, if there is special areas of interest like an odd overskirt or unusual areas. I'll also need to know some personal information if you know any, such as is the the original owner known? Is there any background or provenance such as wedding invitations, family background or original photos of the owner in the dress? Are there are makers tags, marks or stamps inside? What kind of damage is seen? Questions will be asked to clarify items. Photo(s) must be your property (like family photos, etc.) or, in the public domain (pre-20's.). To submit photo(s) you give Lisa Schnapp and Bustledress.com full consent to display the submitted photograph and any questions, history or email text (etc.) regarding the item in question and/or photo(s) on Bustledress.com in this forum. Bustledress.com reserves the right to deny any photos or texts deemed inappropriate. No item limit.

Send compressed photo(s) to be submitted to: Lisa Schnapp at: bonnet@interx.net

Any background known, or written should also be included as it may be helpful in determining an exact age(s).
