This is OPULENCE! This extremely rare Victorian Redfern Opera coat combines restrained tailoring with lavish trims! This amazing coat is made of mustard camel colored wool merino felt with black curled ostrich feather trims at the cuffs, lining the front and down the back in a point. There is an attached capelet, which is part of the coat. The black silk grosgrain collar is embroidered with metallic thread in a gorgeous fern leaf type pattern. The coat hooks up the front with 19 large metal hooks. The hooks are concealed buy the ostrich feathers. The lining is black, thick silk satin. There is an inner belt which ties to keep the coat fastened securely to the small of the back. There is gathering at the back of the coat to accommodate a small bustle.
Condition:
This is a wonderful item in just fabulous condition- it could be worn immediantly. Other than the silk-satin ruching in the hood, the lining in the lappets and some areas around the neck used for padding and stabilizing (and they did a fantastic job), this pretty Dolman has no lining (never had any). Meant to be worn on a warm fall evening, mostly for show.
