Gorgeous style and unbelievable grace really come to mind when I think about this amazing, one of a kind Edwardian lace and embroidery lingerie gown and pink silk ribbons. One of the absolutely finest dresses I've ever encountered- it was wonderfully stored and cared for. A dress for a wealthy woman due to all of the time consuming work and the fact it's white- which had to be laundered more often, and was costly at the time. Amazingly, the dress is a very decent size 12, tensile strength is strong, scarcely touched by time. You'd expect a beautiful "Elise" to be strolling the hotel veranda in it at a Somewhere in Time weekend.

This stunning extra fine Swiss batiste summertime dress is princess styled and curvy, with a form-fitted natural, empire waist. Sleeves have small poufs at the shoulder sleeves, and frothy, ornate rows of three, machine made Point de Esprit that are ruffled at the ends! The slightly scooped relaxed lace neckline is just stunning with more gently ruffled lace. There is more of the fabulous lace gathered delicately at the bodice waist and multiple tucks (emulating a belt) under the embroidered and eyelet blousen bosom- made for a curvy woman. Yards of extra fine baby pink silk taffeta weave ribbons are woven in the large eyelets in the neck, waist, and five extra rows down the skirt. I'm not sure if the ribbons are original to this dress, as the lady I purchased this dress from removed them when she carefully washed the dress and gently replaced them every time (she had this great dress the past twenty years and you can tell she cared for it), (the fine silk ribbons do fit well and are correct to the period anyway). A line of lace word lines the center, with alternating rows of scalloped, embroidered eyelet, Point de Esprit insertion and ruffles, flowered embroidery ribbons run across the "A" line bell flounced skirt. Hook enclosures (with all hooks and eyes) close the dress at the back. No lining, but shown with a baby pink silk slip (not included) as it most likely was worn with a colored silk slip due the peek-a-boo nature of the dress. Wonderfully made. A treasure. Would be a great "Titanic" wedding dress too. As you can see I can run on and on about this amazing dress- pretty rare to run across a dress like this in a larger size, 12- but keep in mind it is NOT made for a busty woman- it would be better if you are a size "B" or smaller as the front does not have the fullness needed to accommodate larger sized busts.

Condition:

Whew! Are you still here after all that writing? Well, here's very little to tell about the condition, but I'm picky so, here we go... The batiste and lace is strong, clean and bright (but not newly laundered), even wearable if you so choose. There may be a few minor mends (or not) on seams. If so, I am just not detecting them. I noticed one nearly unnoticeable, well 1/6" done mend on a wear hole (shown in photo) on skirt, another mend on netting under a ruffle around the knees. Again, kind of hard to see, but works. A few tiny (slightly bigger than a pin head) minor tea colored spots, a few minor pinholes, and that's it. 99.9 percent intact- No rust, no tears, ect. With all of this fancy work you'd expect more but it's just a wonderful Edwardian dress. Pearl choker not included.
