MAJESTIC really come to mind when I think about this amazing, one of a kind gown that would be absolutely amazing to wear during the holidays or at Wild West events. One of the absolutely finest rich new (never been worn) reproduction bustle dresses I've ever seen! This amazing and SEXY shimmery ruby red dress is made of ruby red 100 percent silk velvet. (Warp threads are 90 percent silk and 10 percent rayon. I know because I purchased it off the bolt myself.) The wonderful shimmery red and black bamboo motif (very popular motif in the late 1880's) on the front sweetheart plastron and piping around the collar and cuffs and on the lower part of the skirt are also 100 percent silk shantung brocade. The etched (striped) true Victorian buttons are painted black and the rare cotton, handmade Victorian needle scalloped Point de Marseille lace at the sleeves were chosen for being clean, strong (without breaks or mends) and slightly ivory in color. This dress was made to look and feel as authentic as it could be.
The collared, round neckline is just stunning- LOVE it with a sexy choker. The cuirass bodice is extremely tailored and comfortably curvy, with a form-fitted, fully boned interior made of very soft muslin (for moisture evaporation. The muslin was preshrunk. But because of silk velvet, it will have to be dry cleaned when that is necessary.)and ends in front points and a long, square rear. The relaxed sleeves (not tight for comfort- plus you can move your arms without losing style) have small poufs at the shoulder points, leading down to deeply cuffed and contrasted cuffs (in the fabulous silk shantung) and 4" long, lush hand applied red glass beads ending in the frothy, ornately flowered needle lace with 3" scallops! As you can see I can run on and on about this amazing outfit- rare to run across a dress this pretty and realistic looking.
This gorgeous and unusual draped skirt application is unbelievable. It has incredible 1880's style. The silk velvet over skirt is heavier than what you's expect from the photos due to all the lush glass hand beading lining the sides, back and bottom drape. It has a reenforced liner toward the bottom. The skirts sweep was made to be worn supported with much fullness at the upper rear hip and a sturdy, but smallish boned bustle with flounced layers which Margaret can also custom make for you if desired (not included.). I recommend this dress for a tall (about 5'7- 5'10"- can be altered for a shorter lady at an additional fee.) curvy lady with slender hips and legs so a bustle will extend the back fall properly. The bottom near the hem is plain and unadorned, but the beaded fringe layers on top of it shake and shimmer provocatively as you walk. There's a long red beaded tassel recently added.
Condition:
Whew! Are you still here after all that writing? Well, here's very little to tell about the condition, but I'm picky so, here we go... The silk velvet, silk shantung and cotton muslins fabrics are strong and sturdy without spots, holes or weakness. The top buttonhole has had a few extra stitches added for stability (Top button gets much extra use.). The dress must be dry cleaned only.
One of the best reproduction bustle dresses- ever.
