c1880s to c1900 1783 style Broach Portrait de Marie-Antoinette by Elisabeth-Louis Vigee-Lebrun Lynne Lowe All
Antique Items
Vintage Jewelry
This is an absolutely gorgeous depiction of a large, 18th Century style woman Portrait broach, it appears the broach is a reworking of the Elisabeth-Louis Vigee-Lebrun painting, "Portrait de Marie-Antoinette a la rose" (1783). The original painting that the broach was styled afteris shown below broach. 3/4 side view of Marie-Antoinette with dreamy blue eyes, Plush feathered hat, a lush curl draped upon her cornflower blue silk dress shoulder with plunging decollete' while holding a bouquet of cabbage roses.
On this antique broach appears to be the "dotted" antique lithographic process that is sharp and busily detailed, with crisp edges very much like most litho works from the 1880's to 1900, covered with a very thick glass. The black and gold toned edges containing the lady's portrait are deeply bezeled within a cloisonne? or painted frame decorated with gold toned "shells."
This is a very special antique broach piece as it is such an attractive subject, plus a hard-to-find larger size than normally found. This antique broach could easily be worn in a Victorian costume, 18th century costume, Victorian Bustle dress, Victorian reenactment, or Dicken's Fair. Sold "AS IS" "AS FOUND."
Condition:
Excellent condition. There is a small amount of age-related oxidization to the frame paint with a tiny nick no bigger than the head of a small pin. Under the thick glass, there is brownish vintage oxidization upon the glass underneath in less than 5 percent of total portrait, mostly it is concentrated on upper and lower edges. It really can only be noticed when under a bright light such as direct flash reflects pointedly into the glass. The first photo was taken in natural lighting and you can see that it is nearly invisible in most circumstances. (We are purists and don't alter the way an item comes to us. We allow the new owner to have a choice to have age-related patinas or not.)SALE 20 Percent off of listed Price
