Miss Brendas Victorian style Clothiers
Victorian Civil War Plaid afternoon dress costume reproduction based on a fashion plate found in "Masterpieces of Women's Costume of the 18th and 19th Centuries." This 1869 type afternoon dress is made of browns and cream plaid 100 percent silk linen blend with natural "slubs" (which should not be considered flaws as they make up the unique character of the textile, and reflects the time period of the dress). The nicely lined bodice has an off-white linen collar trimed in a petite cotton lace. This lovely dress is an original creation of my own, fashioned around a dress made in 1869. The original gown that inspired me was originally made of green taffeta, with an overskirt laid in folds and caught at the sides with straps of silk ornamented with black velvet buttons.
Condition:
The Civil War style bodice also has nine, gold "rose" flower, antique-looking buttons, and a rust colored organza ribboned placket. The drop shoulder afternoon dress comes with off-white linen undersleeves (matches the collar) with draw strings (to tie around the upper arm) and trimmed at the cuffs with lace to match the collar. There are also padded breast pads (which were worn in this era with day dresses). The gathered overskirt is trimmed with rust organza ribbon at the waist, and used to gather the overskirt. Adorning each ribbon is a total of 42 buttons matching the buttons on the bodice. At the bottom of the Post Civil War style dress is a row of box pleated rust organza ribbon. This lovely afternoon dress is to be worn over a hooped crinoline of a circumference of no more than 170" or lots of layers of petticoats. All seams are serged. New and unworn.
