A Victorian reproduction of an 1890's tea gown made of a beautiful pale copper and soft sea green brocade, with sea green taffeta contrast fabric makes this dress perfect for Spring. This Bustle dress consists of two pieces, Victorian style gown and collar. Initially, Victorian Tea Gowns were made for comfort to be worn at home- like a robe, and without the confines of corset and bustle. However as time went on, these dresses became more lavish and ladies were seen wearing them for social outings along with bustle and corset.
DRESS: This Victorian style dress is one piece in construction, and is completely lined with an ivory cotton fabric and is open to just below the waistline. The pearl buttons are decorative, with hook and eye extending below the waist. There is boning in the side seams only. A panel of crinkled taffeta has been inserted down the front, collar and in a V shape in the back. The straight lined inner sleeve is also of this taffeta, with another open sleeve of brocade on top. The ivory lace at the cuff is authentic lace from that era on soft net.
The rear of the tea dress has a slight train, and is shown over a small bustle in the photo and has a green taffeta bow streaming down at the back. There is also a 4 inch wide row of ruffled green taffeta, which has been sewn by hand to the inside of the train to peak out.
COLLAR: This vintage collar dates from 1900-1904 and is made of mixed machine laces with Chemical lace medallions and imitation Venetian Guipure lace. It is in strong, mint condition and is a separate piece. It opens at the shoulder, and is wide in the back.
Condition:
A short note on the construction of my dresses... I always try to maintain an accurate representation of whatever period I am reproducing. All of my seams are pinked to prevent unraveling. I never use Velcro, fabric glue or zippers on the garments and proper interfacing is always used in the waistbands and collars to prevent rolling. I also adjust my patterns slightly to allow for more upper arm comfort than original patterns of this period provide. If a fabric easily unravels, I flat line each piece with a zig-zag stitch. US shipping of $15.00. Outside the US, please e-mail me for a very reasonable shipping cost. Delivery time approx. 3-5 days within US and 5-7 days outside the US. SALE Was $425, Now offered at $365., a real savings of $60.00!
