This is a Victorian style reproduction ensemble of the mid 1880s Bustle gown. This Bustle dress consists of two pieces, Victorian style bodice and skirt. Made of a rich burgundy velvet and coordinating, pressed burgundy paisley velvet, this Bustle outfit is elegant in it's simple lines. And though this Victorian Costume is made to represent the Victorian era, the Victorian style jacket could actually be worn today with a pair of Jeans and still look stylish.
BODICE: The Victorian type bodice is made of the rich paisley velvet and has been flat-lined with boning in the side and front seams, then bag-lined with burgundy cotton fabric. Bodice closes with vintage gold buttons and closure loops down the front. (See close-up.)
SKIRT: The Victorian style skirt is a traditional 4-gored Victorian skirt made of the burgundy velvet. The rear of the skirt has been pulled up, and sewn to ties inside to create large poofs, and a wide portion at the rear bottom has been box pleated. The wide side sashes are solid on the inside, with paisley fabric on the outside. The sashes have been pulled up from the side seams to create swags that come together at the back over the bustle area and fall to short tails. These swags are sewn to the back of the Victorian skirt. The skirt has been completely flat lined in burgundy cotton, and closes at the side.
Condition:
 A short note on the construction of my dresses... I always try to maintain an accurate representation of whatever period I am reproducing. All of my seams are pinked to prevent unraveling. I never use Velcro, fabric glue or zippers on the garments and proper interfacing is always used in the waistbands and collars to prevent rolling. I also adjust my patterns slightly to allow for more upper arm comfort than original patterns of this period provide. If a fabric easily unravels, I flat line each piece with a zig-zag stitch.
