Here's a lovely post Civil War/Victorian bustle dress costume day gown, c. 1870s bustle style costume, which has been reproduced by using period patterns of that era. This gown requires a bustle for the proper look (not included. The "flower pot" styled hat is included.) Made of a rich, iridescent paisley brocade consisting of browns, blues and golds, with a contrasting sky blue dupioni silk. This is a very stunning outfit.

BODICE: The bodice is made of the paisley brocade and has been flat-lined, then bag-lined and boned in all 7 seams. The neckline is trimmed with a double row of fine, blue silk pleating and the bottom of the pointed bodice is trimmed with solid brown fringe. The straight sleeves end in cuffs of solid brown and blue with a row of blue pleating. Blue silk drapes the front and rear in a series of loops and bows with fringe trim on the back streamers. The bodice closes with hook and eye.

SKIRT: This graceful skirt is a 6 gored skirt with the gathering of fabric at the rear to accomodate the bustle, with a majestic rear train completely trimmed with a row of finely pleated solid blue silk. Each panel has been flat-lined. The side panels are of solid brown taffeta, accented with rows of solid brown fringe and a beaded blue and brown fringe.

HAT: The "Flower Pot" hat is a small, Victorian style hat, made of covered buckram and a wired frame. It is covered in solid brown taffeta, then trimmed with a brown pleated scroll trim. A blue silk band with a silk flower and bow adorns the top and side. A clump of vintage brown feathers completes the period look.

Condition:

A short note on the construction of my dresses... I always try to maintain an accurate representation of whatever period I am reproducing. All of my seams are pinked to prevent unraveling. I never use Velcro, fabric glue or zippers on the garments and proper interfacing is always used in the waistbands and collars to prevent rolling. I also adjust my patterns slightly to allow for more upper arm comfort than original patterns of this period provide. If a fabric easily unravels, I flat line each piece with a zig-zag stitch.
