Hi Lisa, I've added more photos. The boning is completely encased in fabric and you can see the seams only.1895 Vintage Victorian Reproduction CostumeThe bottom hem has the black loop trim. The front bodice point is covered by beadwork, I see a simple seam through it. The underlining seems to be an entire dress unto itself. The bodice is attached to the velvet skirt, then the underlining. The lace is applied on top of just the velvet. Machine treadle type straight stitches, about 12 stitches per inch.

The velvet is cut at the edges, drapes beautifully. Has body, not thin. The backing appears to be Rayon? Not sure, not scratchy, definitely not cotton. Has a sheen to it. I just don't know velvets, but with the backing, I'm leaning toward Rayon?
