USA Entry 19.) Dress: 1876 Ohio State Transitional period Natural Form GownCategory: Best Victorian Day Bustle GownSeamstress: Catawba KateI wanted to wear something different; a little sleeker without all the ruffles and trims, so I chose this fashion plate from 1876. This is a transitional phase from the early bustle to the natural form. Either could be worn. What also makes this dress special to me is that it represents my home state of Ohio. In one picture I'm holding the Ohio State flag. I chose a reversible blue and red silk satin and a plaid taffeta for the side back panels on the skirt. I have just a little white lace at the collar, sleeves and pockets. The taffeta represents the Ohio tartan. A cardinal, the Ohio state bird, is perched on the hat, a brooch at the neck is of a lady bug which is the state insect. The entire dress represents the red, white and blue of the Ohio flag. The buttons down the front of the bodice are glass stars. I thought it turned out pretty close to the inspirational photo! I wore this to the SASS convention and to a tea party. Catawba Kate
USA Entry 18.) Dress: Gothic Flounced Bustle GownCategory: 1880's Best Gothic Victorian GownThis an 1873 Victorian Goth Day Gown. The black and white patterned fabric and pink color trims were fun to play with... feminine and eye-catching, but with unexpected softness of the trim, yet, very period. This fabulous gown now lives in Germany. Lady Leigh
USA Entry 17.) Dress: 1886 Late era Bustle GownCategory: Most Beautiful Bustle Dress In the WORLDI call this dress my Moroccan dress simply because the fabric for the skirt came from Morocco which is a cream and green stripe silk. The bodice and over skirt are done in a green dupioni silk. I decided to have this made after I was inspired by an 1886 fashion plate in the La Mode Illustree magazine. I love wearing this dress to the SASS convention and to tea parties. Catawba Kate
