Blooms black VELVET 1880s OPERA BOOTS with Louis heels Sz. 8 Wide
Very lovely and simple black velveteen opera boots made for indoor wear, most likely an opera made by "Blooms Star shoe store." This is the only pair I've had like this, they are very unusual as they are fabric and not leather or suede, with a great sewn nose pattern that I rarely see in Victorian shoes and boots. The fine velveteen outer fabric is in phenomenal condition. They are very strong, in very wearable condition- I think they have only been worn once or twice. White canvas inners, flexible fine leather sole. Maker stamped in stylized gold leaf, "Blooms, Star Shoe store." A superb pair of velvet boots- Wear them to the opera with your opera toilette or to a fancy dinner or event!

Remember to add 1" to the toe tip for toe wiggle room when measuring yourself- pointed toes can be painful to squeeze into, but comfortable if you give yourself enough room.

Condition:

These boots are truly made for indoor wear- winter wetness and large amounts of walking outdoors are not recommended as the fabric is too absorbent and the soles are very soft and flexible- only a bit more support than ball slippers- but unbelievably comfortable for a tea, ect. The velvet only has a very tiny, 1 almost rub (flattened) or almost wear burr on one toe, one side has an almost wear spot of 1/4" round, plus another of the same on one heel- these truly are nothings. Inside white canvas and leather- in excellent condition- minor soil. Leather band on inside excellent condition. Light- moderate wear on soft, flexible soles/ heel plates- not made for heavy walking. Needs an occasional brushing for fuzz. Tie strings have been replaced at some point- I'm guessing the 1970's, one ender plastic is weakened but the replaced ties are otherwise easily used. Condition on the soles and inners is gently worn. Velvet tongues are great. Near Mint condition.
