Edwardian Circa 1909-1910 Irish Linen and Crochet Tea Dress Size 8
(Sorry no other photos available of this gown anymore.) AMAZING circa 1909 Irish linen and crochet tea dress! The work in this dress is great! It has ALL KINDS of designs in the crochet. There are roses, hanging raspberry shaped balls, leaves and abstract arts and crafts motifs. The dress is cut in the princess line with long side seams that accentuate the waist and hips. The upper part of the dress has see -thru netting and chevron patterns along with more crochet and embroidery, there are also 2 medallions of crochet work with on either side of the chest area with crochet dangles. I think there were originally 4 per side but 2 are missing from one side and 1 is missing from the other. The dress has a high neck with stays to keep it straight. The arms of the dress are all cotton net with crochet work on them. This is certainly a summer dress. The dress fastens up the back with 19 hooks and eyes. 2 long panels of open netting and crochet work trail down the back and front near to the hem.

Condition:

Condition on this dress is near excellent, The only condition item I could find on the crochet is 1 small repair in the front of the dress, and the missing dangles at the front. Underarms are perfect. There is one area where somebody seems to have spilled a small amount of white latex paint on the dress. There are 3 areas near the side of the waist- one is about the size of a nickel, one is smaller than a dime and one is about the size of a pencil eraser head. They are hard to see unless you are holding the dress up the light or are using a strong lamp.
