Edwardian 1912 Garden tea Parachute Lame' Gown Repro Reminiscent of Elise in Somewhere in Time
This is a remarkably fetching Edwardian party, or garden tea gown, this one a repro, again from the Susan Rockchild collection! She and her husband were huge collectors of Victorian and Edwardian clothing to wear in their vintage cars. She really cared for all her fabulous gowns- the real, and the repros! All of them have been wonderful!

This divine, "A" list gown strongly reminds me of Elise from the movie, Somewhere in time. You know, the "raspberry almond" parachute dress she wears when Elise and Richard spend a stolen afternoon together near the old lighthouse...(Yes, you can tell I've seen the movie only a hundred times! Ha.) Also, the blue dress she wears when she looks for him at his room when he's tied up in the horse stable...Sorry...back to this gorgeous gown. (If you haven't seen this movie- rent it- a must if you liked Titanic! You can thank me later! : ) )

Pretty. Romantic. Pretty romantic. Perfect for those of you who like an authentic look, but don't like to wear (and possibly damage) authentic gowns. With softest yellow silk Georgette panels and lapels, deep ecru embroidered lace (soft poly) tiered skirts (So soft it's difficult to discern, unless you test it or know the difference.). Reproduction gold lame' modesty insert (extremely real looking- possibly could be real- just trying to cover all bases here) with crossed elongated Art Nouveau lace appliques, and a line of golden beads (not red.) A lovely period buckle is slightly off center in the cream satin belt. Lined in a heavy silk taffeta like lining that I believe is actually made originally in the 70's I believe. Double lining in the skirt for weight with the layer of heavily embroidered lace net and the parachute draped (or ascot style) over skirt that's slightly bustled in the lower rear with a cascading silk drape. Mmmm! Yummy! Full length slightly Garbaldi embroidered net sleeves (fuller at the bottom) and cuffs and high, embroidered neck that peeks down onto a "U" lining. Classy. There is a bow tie at the waist, hidden zipper, invisible plastic snaps on the netted back. Dress wearable and strong enough for constant wear. Blousen bodice. Flowy skirt's full length. This is a really a wonderful dress! I'd keep it if it were larger! (Props, such as the hat/ broach, ect., and is not included, or for sale.) Strong, and very wearable. Perfectly comfortable for that event, tea, Halloween, tour, vintage car event or the Somewhere in Time weekend at the hotel around the corner.

Props, including bustle, necklace, mannequin wig and fan are not included, and are not for sale. This would be the best dress at a reenactment, play, Halloween, ball, dinner, or event like tea- just add plumed bonnet, gloves, necklace, broach, and parasol, you will be THE Gibson Girl everyone will wonder who her tailor is this spring!

Condition:

Whew! Are you still with me after all that writing? Well, here's very little to tell about the condition, but I'm picky so, here we go... It's certainly very lovely, presentable and in VERY EXCELLENT condition! Although it isn't 100 percent perfect as it's been previously worn, (how many of them are?) there's so very little to mention. I believe this dress was made (or possibly remade) by a very good (home?) seamstress or even Susan, but that's not in any way affecting this divine gown.

I did think I noticed that the lace is not perfectly centered when sewn on with possibly a bit of a wrinkle there, but it would be so slight I may be mistaken or just a trick of the 30 ole' eyes. An extremely faint stain on one silk shoulder lapel with a tiny wear area there. A few tiny spots on the cream belt. Worn at least once, it's in Very excellent condition. Not much to mention at all.
