1904 to 1908 Edwardian Pink Brocaded Summer Corset This is one of the PRETTIEST French style, curvy summer corsets I've ever had the opportunity to run across!!! A must have in pink! Friends who have seen this pretty in person gasp and say, "Look at that WAIST!!!" It is a dainty size. I estimate the date to be around 1904-1908, with the early Edwardian flat-front, that makes for the average length hourglass shape that flattens the abdomen and pushes out the rear when tight laced. This wonderful corset is correctly laced for the period, which is one lace to the waist, adjustable at the waist, and the bottom lace is adjusted at the waist, this way the corset could be tightened down to nip the waist and not crushing the ribs with the pale peach laces. It has a Chevon patterned lace beading at the top with silk satin /taffeta dotted pale, peach ribbon.
This wonderful "square geometric drawn work" brocaded pattern blush pink fabric is extremely sturdy and beautiful, a quality cotton-linen blend Brocade, with long, thin but flexible steel bones, reaches in front to half bust, front opening busc with a hook clasp. No garters, but has a "skirt" under the bones that make the corset not rise above the petticoats or skirt. If worn, add 3-4 inches opening at back for cinching at closed measurements. No stamps, tags or markings. An unusual and quality corset at the time! Small size 0-2. Closed: Bust, 22" A-B? 18 1/2" Waist, 28" Hip. About 15" From top of bust to hip
Condition:
Like I said- this is really wonderful corset. The outer fabric tensile strength condition is just superb! Wearable, but outside has some tiny/ minor rust spots/ few dirt spots (See photos) with larger faint rust spots on the inside that do not show through. A thumb sized pink spot on an inside bone- ink? A few tiny holes, at lacing and lacing bottom where long bones have poked a bit through the casing. Small fixable hole on the top beading lace. The ribbon is going, and needs to be replaced. May have been replaced some time ago. Back laces are very strong but also may have been replaced at some point. No enders on them. Color is slightly uneven, but hard to notice- not a big deal. Very slight corrosion on hooks. Wearing would take minimal fixing or it would make a gorgeous display! I consider this beauty in good condition!
