FABULOUS silk Fushias FANCY c.1890 boned Bodice
This is one of the most wonderful and unusual Victorian bodices I've ever run across-. I believe it was custom tailored for a fall to winter dinner event, possibly even a wedding bodice for a young widow, due to the intertwined wedding ring fabric lining the inside of the sleeves. As you can see from the photos, the silk-satin bright pink and red "fuchsias" has seeds, alternating with brocaded silk stripes. The silk-satin fabric's richly colored, lustrous and strong, very wearable. There are thick, silk-satin ribbons on the front (on the sides of the front folds) and a deep "V" on the back, and looped tops of the full sleeves, there are lovely bows in the centers. The neck has a firmly high standing fold down collar, and peekabo front opening. My favorite part is the ruching at the wrists!

The bodice innards are smooth black polished or glazed cotton (reminds me of chintz), and double wedding ring striped cotton on the sleeves. Seams are machine sewn and French seamed edges are hand bound with red silk tissue. Fully and firmly bones. All bones are covered in heavy gray canvas and in amazingly grand condition. This was one of my prized bodices in my personal collection for nearly 10 years! Shiny black hook and eye closures, firmly sewn on- no rust. A dream of a bodice!

Condition:

This bodice's is in phenomenal condition- and wearable, if you're a size 3-4. Just a few very minor things to mention here. The silk-satin ribbon on the back has some ever so slight fraying at the metered "V" joint. I think this probably could be fixed easily since it does not appear to have fabric weakness. Inside and out bodice appears strong, no obvious pinholes, or wear (even along wrist, neck and bottom edge)! Along a thin line around the neck I noticed the minorest amount of skin oil? That's it. I consider this GORGEOUS bodice as good as they get- NEAR MINT. Skirt and Poppy hat shown not included. This bodice would be great in a collection. No off smells. Comes from a non-smoking environment.
