FABULOUS Victorian c.1890 GARNET brown silk satin and velvet boned Traveling Bodice
This is one of the most attractively colored, yet practical, Victorian bodices I've ever run across-. I believe it was custom tailored for a fall to winter dinner event. The garnet brown silk-satin and velvet fabric's richly colored, lustrous and strong, very wearable. There is velvet inserts alongside the fine, knife pleats near front hooks, mandarin collar, and moderately full, puff top sleeves that taper to slim wrists. The waist has a princess point. The back has been made up in the silk, has princess seams, and a swallowtail peplum.
The bodice innards are smooth, tan polished/ silk blend cotton. Seams are machine sewn and hand cast seams, edges are hand bound in white silk thread. Fully and firmly boned with thin, baleen bones. This was one of my prized bodices in my personal collection for nearly 10 years! Shiny black and some silver hook and eye closures, firmly sewn on- no rust. A dream of a bodice!
Condition:
This bodice's is in phenomenal condition- and wearable, if you're a size 5-7. Just a few very minor things to mention here. Nearly invisible underarm stain marks, in and out...- remember, they are hard to spot. Crook of arms has a few slight velvet folds from original wearing. Two tiny pinholes on back silk at waist, one inside. A few of the hooks/ eyes had been replaced. That's it. I consider this GORGEOUS bodice as good as they get- NEAR MINT. Skirt and bonnet shown not included. This bodice would be great in a collection or to wear. No off smells. Comes from a non-smoking environment.
